Dumfriesshire will see an exciting derby clash next Friday night (8th October, 2004 kick-off 7.45 pm) at Raydale Park as Gretna have been drawn to play local rivals Queen of the South in the second round of the SFA Youth Cup.

David Bingham, Ryan Baldacchino, Mick Galloway and Kenny Deuchar were all on-target as Gretna beat FC Shanghai 4-2 in Italy on Saturday. The unlucky youngsters went down 8-7 on penalties in their opening game of the Annan Tournament after drawing 0-0 with a strong Raith Rovers side. On Sunday they drew 1-1 with Annan, with trialist Patrick Cullan hitting the net, before again going down 4-1 on penalties.

Reports from the club's pre-season tour in Italy suggest that Gretna top-gun Martin Cameron is progressing well and is 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule in his road to recovery from injury. 21/05/04 SMITH SIGNS

Gretna have boosted their firepower by signing Clyde striker Andy Smith. The vastly experienced 6'1" hitman has put pen to paper on a deal to bring him to Raydale Park from the First Division high-flyers who just missed out on promotion to the SPL by a point.

Substitute Brian Wake headed in a late leveller as Gretna ended the season with a 1-1 draw at Queen's Park. Youngsters Craig Summersgill and Colin Spence made their first-team full debuts.

13/05/04 Derek Townsley named Bell's Player of the Month

Gretna goal-ace Derek Townsley's red-hot form has earned him the Bell's Scottish Third Division Player of the Month for April.
Townsley struck six times throughout month - heading the vital winner at promotion rivals Stirling Albion while suffering a stomach bug, hitting a hat-trick against East Stirlingshire and refusing the matchball as he claimed his second was 'iffy' and heading a double in a tremendous 4-1 win at Montrose.
The popular 31-year-old utility player has now hit the net nine times in 14 games since returning for his second spell at the Raydale Park club after appearing at Queen of the South, Oxford United and in the SPL with Motherwell and Hibernian.


10/05/04 Gretna win thriller

Gretna claimed third spot in the Bell's Scottish Third Division after winning an absolute cracker at Raydale Park against closest rivals Peterhead. First half goals from Mark Birch, Ryan Baldaccchino and Ian Stevens put Gretna firmly in the driving seat, but Peterhead hit back with two goals in a minute from Robbie Raeside and Martin Bavidge.

Former Raydale favourite Derek Townsley has signed for Gretna. The ex-Carlisle, Queen of the South,Motherwell, Hibs and Oxford ace put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal.

15/01/04 Patterson receives International Call-Up

Dumfries schoolboy Liam Patterson has been selected for the 16-man Scottish Schools FA under-18 International squad. The squad will face the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and England in International friendlies to be played in February, March and April. Gretna FC Director of Youth Football Leigh Manson said:"Obviously, we're delighted for Liam. He comes in and trains with us once a week from his school, so we really appreciate that. It's brilliant to see him getting the recognition that he deserves."

15/01/04 Team News for Queen's Park game

Striker Martin Cameron played 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Clyde in midweek and netted in the 1-1 draw. The 12-goal hit-man could return to the squad. Midfield ace Danny Lennon could also feature in the game at some point. Brian Wake is boss Rowan Alexander's only injury concern.

Congratulations to boss Rowan Alexander who was awarded with the Bell's Manager of the Month award for December today. It is the second time that Rowan has scooped the award, having won it in the clubs first month in Scottish football last season as we stormed to the top of the Third Division with three wins and a draw.

21/12/03 Tennent's Cup Third Round Draw

Gretna have been drawn away to First Division Clyde in the Third Round of the Tennent's Scottish Cup. We make the trip to Broadwood on Saturday, 10th January, 2004. Alan Kernaghan's boys knocked Gretna out of the Cup at the Third Round stage last season with a 2-1 win at Raydale.

Striker Martin Cameron could return to the squad for the Tennent's Cup Second Round tie against Stenhousemuir at Raydale on Saturday 20th December (kick-off 3pm). Danny Lennon played 70 minutes for the Reserves on Wednesday night as he works his way back to full fitness.

Gretna's Third Division fixture against Cowdenbeath has been re-arranged for Tuesday, 2nd December with an 8pm kick off. Saturday's game was abandoned after 18 minutes due to adverse weather conditions.

28/10/03 Gretna draw Dumbarton in Tennent's Scottish Cup

Gretna have been drawn at home to Second Division Dumbarton in the First Round of the Tennent's Scottish Cup. The tie is to be played on Saturday November 22nd. Full Draw as follows:

Forfar v. East Fife, Elgin v. Peterhead, GRETNA v. Dumbarton, Montrose v. Albion Rovers, Stirling Albion v. Queens Park, Spartans v. Buckie Thistle, Cowdenbeath v. Edinburgh City, Clachnacuddin v. Stranraer.

If Gretna beat Dumbarton, they will face Stenhousemuir, again at Raydale Park, in the Second Round. Second Round ties to be played Saturday December 20th.
